Roland had his first train ride on Monday with Brian. They took the 7:45 AM in to downtown Nashville, got out and toured the train station and took the 8:15 back to Mt. Juliet. Brian said Roland's brain pored out his ears at first, then he was all about talking about the train, pointing out things he saw from the train, etc. By the end Brian was struggling to keep him awake and the gentle rock of the train was lulling him to sleep. They had a GREAT time! Nothing in this world, even more than mom, dad and the pups, brings Roland more joy right now than trains. He can detect the whistle miles and miles away and freezes when he hears it. He knows each and every railroad crossing and spots the signals from miles away. It helps we run parallel to the route the commuter train takes and can hear it from the back yard (though not loud enough for adults to notice!) The above video is part of our evening ritual a couple times a week if we can time it right we stop into the Hermitage or Mt. Juliet station and wait on the 6 PM train to roar in. It's only there for about 45 seconds (perfect!) and then it is off again with a couple more parting whistle blows! You'll notice Roland waving that pointing finger like mad, he's talking about the "choo-choo train" on the "choo-choo track" and tons of other Roland babble! Way too much fun!
