Roland generally isn't accident prone, in fact, he's pretty amazing at bumping off, avoiding, and catching himself before near disaster. We certainly don't try to buffer him from his environment, although we did move the furniture against the walls to avoid even tempting him to use it as a jumping platform. Needless to say, as his spring school portrait date grew nearer I trimmed his hair, pressed his favorite shirt, etc. As luck would have it, Roland was sitting picturesquely on the front porch bench with his Great Grandfather and lost his balance kicking his legs. His forehead had a pretty good goose-egg, but the bangs hid it. As for the nose, the photographer sent us a "touched up" proof with no evidence at all to this story, and we politely asked him to send us the real photo. "Really? Did you see how bad it was?" the photographer asked. "Of course, but it's part of a memory about a little boy, who's all boy." Perfectly coiffed or perfectly covered in mud, Roland is perfect to us.
