Breaking news from the Williamson County Fair

The 2009 Williamson County Fair, sponsored by Tractor Supply Co, was officially conquered last night by two seemingly innocent toddlers: Connor Owens and Roland Throop. The pair arrived promptly at 5:55 PM just before the gates opened accompanied by their mothers, Connor’s grandfather Ed (official stroller supervisor), and Roland’s Aunt Kristen (official ride safety representative). The duo held hands while waiting in line to enter, eagerly boarded their strollers and began a systematic testing of all rides age appropriate. Neither of the boys had ridden fair rides before and both mother’s were cautious, but after one go with a flying panda they were undoubtedly game for the experience. Photos can be seen HERE.

The pair enjoyed enthusiastically riding motorcycles, boats, cars, dragons, fish, elephants, horses (a carousel) and more. Two highlights from the evening included a three story maze enclosure requiring tests of agility, strength and coordination to reach the summit and bravely slide down a tunnel slide, and the petting/feeding zoo. The Little Farmer’s market added an educational element to the evening, as well as BMX demonstrations and a log-rolling contest between a lumberjack and his dog. The dog won. (Jack Russell Terrier). While they were unable to catch the pig races, they did enjoy seeing baby pigs nursing from their mother pig, getting some new barn tattoos and eating really great corn dogs. Of all occasions, Connor enjoyed eating an apple and sampling the carrot slices in the goat feeding area.

Late into the night Ed treated the delirious-with-happiness-team to funnel cake and admission into the inflatable jumpy area. The mother’s, somewhat skeptic, were completely amazed by the never ceasing energy and enthusiasm for jumping around in circles and sliding down slides. From atop one of the inflatable’s the boys, supervised by Aunt Kris, watched the nightly firework display, and then resumed jumping. Good strategy on Ed’s part, as they started to deflate the jumps creating a perfect departure transition to the cars.

After the boys embraced and parted ways, a school bus pulled up and open the doors right in front of Roland. His brain now completely mush he just walked on board, assumed the front seat and neatly folded his hands in his lap. Almost too happy to speak, we rode the bus back to our car to wrap up the world’s greatest day at the fair.

This marks the conclusion of the second annual Williamson County Fair trip, each year proving to be more exciting than the last. First words Roland spoke the next morning were “Where’s Connor?” And then started babbling about feeding animals and climbing on tractors.

Special thanks to Ed and Kristen for their invaluable assistance and support for. It wouldn’t have been possible without them!
