Sounds of a Summer Storm

Tonight on the drive home we noticed the clouds by our house were quite a bit darker and larger than the ones downtown. We saw some spectacular lighting, and during the Tulip Grove to Yarmouth Lane drive we enjoyed listening to the thunder. It looked and sounded ominous. Exciting. I made all the necessary preparations to the house.

At exactly the time Roland was going down for bed, the storm finally arrived. I made an executive decision that working through another toddler bedtime session ignoring the storm would be futile, and therefore embraced it. We opened the curtains, pulled up the blinds and cracked the window. It was a spectacular show of lightening, a decent episode of thunder, and a mediocre storm. It looked horrible on TV, but for once, in reality it was as gentle a storm as they come. The best part had to be the soothing sounds of steady, soft, rain. Of course Roland didn't instantly slip off to slumber, and had plenty of questions about lightening, rain, wind, etc. but it was one of the easiest and most enjoyable bedtimes I can recall. So soothing that I just woke up (because Roland was snoring) and it's after 11PM!

Sometimes it's so rewarding to be indulgent with your child, especially when it's attached to a fun memory or a new experience. Roland told me tonight while laying in a pile of pillows and blankets watching the storm that he was warm and cozy, to which I replied, "Me too." He gave me the best of his smiles and snuggled in deeper.
