The Difference Between N and 5

Each day is a startling contrast between our two children, mainly because of size. For example, diaper on the left is Aria's size N, diaper on the right is Roland's size 5. Last night Roland woke up coughing, and when I collected all his arms and legs to scoop him from his bed into my arms for a drink of water it was gut wrenching observing how big he is. I can still hold him, but it takes all my body to gather him in. Holding Aria a few moments later, I remembered the moment I held Roland and realized I could no longer fit him on just my chest. Today Aria is two weeks old, and she easily snuggles under my chin and rests peacefully on my shoulder, barely reaching my stomach. It's hard knowing someday, soon, she too will have arms and legs that no longer tuck neatly into a ball. The comforting knowledge about observing these differences is how much we appreciate them. It also reminds us of the first time Roland embraced us back, and while nothing is as sweet as holding a small baby, it pales in comparison to being hugged by your child.
