This is my entry in the Just Ask Bucket List Getaway Giveaway.
Just Ask offers a breast and ovarian cancer screening and is encouraging people to share 15 things that they want to enjoy in their lifetime as a reminder to be aware of their health. Want to enter? Head over to TodaysMama.com to get the details.
Steve Job's said, "Remembering that you are going to die is the best way I know to avoid the trap of thinking you have something to lose. You are already naked. There is no reason not to follow your heart."
Bucket List's are slightly comical to me. (But I do like the movie.) I've got a friend who will absolutely mock this effort, and another who will likely be inspired and write a 50-point, 5,000 word bucket list. I've also have a friend where this effort would be a waste, because it's too late. Regardless of your position on writing down a list of things you want to do before you die - because we have no control over that - it's not a bad thing to consider.
I'm going to keep mine out of the personal-change arena and stick strictly to things I want to do. And yes, feel free to comment and laugh. Basically, it's just travel destinations...
1. Montana ranch vacation with the family, and if that goes well...
2. Cattle drive vacation
3. Visit Costa Rica with my Dad (*hint, hint)
4. Rent an RV and travel the entire length of the 101 and the 5 (I think I've already covered all but a couple 100 miles...)
5. Rent an RV and wander the west for a summer
6. Rent, wait, we might as well buy an RV...and travel the 1
6. Get back to Banff and explore the Canadian Rockies
7. Run a marathon, someplace cool
8. Discover a dessert the kids love, learn to cook it from scratch, and make it my special dish
9. Learn to surf
10. Go to Japan!
11. Rent a home for an extended stay in south France, frequenting Spain, Italy and Portugal
12. Wander the UK
13. Tour the Netherlands
14. Paint something beautiful for each of the kids
15. Take the train to Alaska
...the list could go on, but I think the gist is to stay healthy and keep moving. Truthfully, if I knew when I was going to die and it was soon, I wouldn't do any of these things. I'd just quit work and keep doing what I'm doing. Hopefully we're all living each day to it's highest potential and bucket lists, while thought provoking, are unnecessary.
