Throughout the day I attempt to make notes of things I observed or want to remember. Stuff the kids say, general obersvations, things I need to look up, general to-dos, ect. It is just a simple compulsion of mine. I get teased about it, often, but writing things down works for me. I tumble thoughts into snippets of statements on paper and keep moving. Sketch book of the mind I guess. Right now I have a list of posts I need to consider, start, finish. I know I'll get to them, but even writing this little note helps take some of the mental load off. Best thing I can attempt is to be as present as possible, take a note, and keep moving.
A few things I've noted lately that I definitely don't want to forget:
The other night at bedtime Aria told me she loved me, and that "you my best friend." She's cautious with this statement, reserving it for special times, like this morning while I slowly woke her with just a smile. My heart explodes every time. Poof!
Roland is presently particular about pancakes and told me tonight that after work tomorrow he would like me to go to the grocery store to get the small pancakes with the white sides that taste good with butter, no syrup. Sure thing. We accessorize them with fresh blueberries and strawberries. I like his particulars, they make me smile.
Speaking of accessories, Aria's got quite the entourage going with her most days. It requires a reusable grocery bag to carry baby cow, baby sheep, baby, bunny, two blankets, one bib, and sometimes but not always a reindeer, cell phone, glasses case, and maybe some bracelets. The bag is as big as she is, but it's fun.
Roland just can't get enough music lately. He's into learning what the band name is, which has become entertaining. We heard "Barracuda" the other day and he wanted to know why a band would name themselves "after a heart, like in my chest? That's silly." Oh Roland, just you wait. The world of crazy band names knows no ends.
The kids still fight, but it's getting funnier every day. "Aria hit me!" "Sorry, Roland." "That's OK, thanks for saying sorry." "Ok." and they play on. It's nice that they work it out, but sheesh, everyone stop trading licks for a moment and we wouldn't have this endless cycle!
Finally, a little dear-me-please-don't-forget-indulgence. My favorite part of each day? Without a doubt: greeting the kids. Nothing better than being toppled to the floor in hugs. Tied for a close second is giving "pig-back" (Aria) rides up the stairs to tuck in jammied littles into bed with a dozen kisses and being woken up by said jammied littles wanting to snuggle. Cozy.
