This photo probably doesn't look too strange at first glance, but let me explain. When we put Roland to bed there's some reading, then the lights are turned out, a couple kisses and off to bed he goes. Two things to note: the switch to the light is on a cord secured to the outside lower edge of his crib, and the library books are against the chair just next to his crib. Also note: the room is pitch black, with a small, hidden night light across the room, the humidifier on, and occasionally his classical music CD playing. Very serene and sleep inducing. (I fall victim to it all the time.)
Imagine my surprise when I slipped up the stairs last night around 10PM to see light coming out from under Roland's door? I was certain I didn't put him down with the lights on...but I did forget to flip the wall switch and our little book worm decided he'd help himself. So here he was, his little hand clutching ever so tightly to the book, atop a wonderful pile of pillows, snoring soundly in the bright reading light. The funniest part is that while writing this post I turned to look at his door only to realize, he'd done it again!
Now I understand why of late he hasn't been so insistent with his pleas for "One more book?" That's because he's figured out how to read once we're gone! Suckers!
It's a bit scary having a sneaky smart toddler. Lucky me he hasn't figured out how to scale the crib, just yet.
