Dear Kids,

You were raised with wolves.

Well, two decendants of wolves and one decentant of a beached seal. Thinking of it, not only does Buddy look and act like a beached seal, he sounds like one too. None the less, the wolves + seal pack adore you. Every day when you come home - from anywhere - they are thrilled to see you. Regardless if you just went to check the mail, or took a three day trip to Dyersburg, they want to know exactly where you've been, who you've seen and want wonderful morsels of what you've eaten are still attached to your body.

Roland, your dog is Anja, and you seek her attention more than the others because she is the least likely to lick you, etc. I'll catch you, head out the dog door, butt in the air, calling for her. You know you can roll and tumble with her on the couch and she'll never seem to mind. You poke at her head and sit on her back and pull on her ears, and she's usually game for it. Even when you were younger you would crawl elaborately over her while see slept (tried to anyway) on the floor. And when you were in the walker, trying to run over her, she'd just raise a leg and push you gently back. You also appreciate that she minds you the most! :)

Now for Aria, you are all things Buddy, big time. Finally, Buddy's presence in the home has found its meaning: crumb duty and making you laugh. Each morning when Brian drops you in the jumpy to feed the dogs you can hear your squealing laugh - literally - all throughout the house. You delight in watching Buddy dance and cavort with excitement waiting for his food. We've video taped it. And exploited it, making Buddy dance EXTRA long and EXTRA big for your amusement. You enjoy Zeus as well, trying to capture his tail in your hands while following him around the house in the walker, and goodness knows he loves giving you kisses, but really, you love Buddy.

Zeus is everyone's dog. His curiousity is hillarious. He wants to be with both of you all the time and as close as possible. Diaper changes? He's in there. Putting on shoes, he's right there, too. Nose in the shoe. Trying to get out the door, between you legs. Occassionaly I'll leave the bottom gate open and he's the only dog that wanders up. He sniffs out the whole house and if I'm bathing the you guys he'll sit down right beside me, his head over the tub, watching as if he's game to give you a hand. Probably wondering why you guys aren't protesting these daily baths more often.

In the future there might come a time when we'll have no pets and you two will be begging us for a puppy or parrot or pig. Eh, maybe when you're older. For right now, we've got close to 200 lbs of fur-kids that we adore and we think that's plenty. Or atleast until Roland can help with picking up poop in the back yard.

So someday, when you look back at these photos and think "what were my parents thinking?" know that we just wanted you to enjoy and love animals as much as we do. Also, that this pack loved you and delighted in your attention. (And that three dogs is one too many - never ever forget that!)
