When I got home tonight I looked out back to see some awesome white mushrooms by the oak tree stump. Sometimes the kid in me just takes over. I had to go see them!
Roland came out later and was very curious why I was on the ground taking pictures of these unknown things. After a serious lesson about mushrooms: touch nice, don't kick, feel the texture and above all DO NOT EAT, we decided to bring one specimen inside to plant and show Aria.
We continued the show-n-tell on the kitchen floor, how it grows like an umbrella, needs tons of water, is actually a type of fungus, and eventually transplanted it in the kitchen window mother's day pot. (I know this is impossible, but I needed some safe transition with the mushroom that didn't equal crying).
Side bar: here's the tape Roland experimented with. Aria sure was fascinated watching him pull handful after handful of ribbon out.
