After the surgery was completed they wheeled me to a dark recovery prep bay in what felt like the bowels of the hospital. Completely alone I was ecstatic to see my mom when she showed up out of no where. And she assured me it was a labyrinth to find me, but she's clever and persuasive. ;) I'm a bit stressed now as I lie there waiting and wondering when I'll get to finally see/hold my daughter having no idea what she looks like, feels like, smells like, etc. Brian was a vigilante at keeping Aria in his arms as much as possible and more importantly, getting her back to me in recovery so we could start nursing. About this time I start having a hilarious reaction to some medication I've been given and start itching. I want to claw off my face. Since I am hella-numb from the chest down it's just my arms and head. Mom is covering me in wet towels so I can scrub myself senseless. Finally a nurse appears and we plead with her to give me something to ward this off. Most important rule of a hospital stay, be oh-so-nice to your nurses.

Only two further mishaps: I became engorged - horribly - on the second day and if you don't know what that is, look it up, but for those that do - it was a riot. You HAVE to laugh. Brian was in disbelief that the nurses were freezing diapers and cabbage leaves and wrapping me in them. Hot. Also, I had some vicious headaches from the spinal block so we preformed a blood block right before leaving so I could continue to be a functioning mom. Just another time to get naked in front of a bunch of strangers.
Personally, I had a blast. I loved my nurses. I loved my free room service food. I love my doctor. I loved having nothing to do but hold and love on my new baby. I loved a bed with remote controls! Having that quiet time with Brian and Aria in the hospital, watching each other fall in love with our new baby, was heaven. But over all, I loved coming home with a beautiful and healthy little girl.
Tomorrow, a year later and her first birthday party!

I remember my sister (after baby number 3) became horribly engorged (and she is huge anyway! Like a HH cup or something similar when pregnant). She kept saying how sore they were, I kept saying how huge they were, and her man insisted on touching them and saying how tight they were (despite her saying how sore they were). She used cabbage leaves, and practically cooked them she was so hot! Didn't look much fun at all to me :-)
I loved reading your story. While I'm planning on a vaginal birth, reading your story has put me more at ease for if I have to have a c-section. You, however, have not helped me in regards to this whole engorgement thing. That frightens me because my goodness, they could possibly take over and make me look like Dog the Bounty Hunters wife. Yep, I have now mentioned vaginas and engorged breasts on your blog....sorry, but welcome to all those pervs searching for that kind of thing :)
