Roland Discovers Permanent Markers, The School Discovers Bob

So Roland made this at school, isn't it great? I have no idea what it is. There's a bow, and a plate, and some tissue paper, and a handle and a photo of him in his Halloween costume. Add to that some expert coloring and apparently, Roland's response to the question, "What are you thankful for?"

1. Food - Check. Roland likes food. No shock there, except he's been barely eating lately. Ah, growth spurts.

2. Bob - the school was stumped. "Who is Bob?" they asked, Roland, "Bob." He's actually my Dad, technically Grandpa Bob, but Roland has ONLY called him Bob, pretty much since he could talk. And Roland is all things into Bob. So if you ever ask, "Guess who's coming over tonight?" or put him on the spot to pick a person, chances are, it will be Bob, closely followed by a random assortment of what Roland calls family, which includes friends and pets. They thought Bob was a toy, like Bob the builder. Nope, that's his Gramps!

3. My cousin. Who knows? But he has 4: Megan and Matthew (CA), and Gretchen and Danica (MN) Pretty impressed he's grasp the concept of cousin to be honest with you.

Now, the really funny part. This has been hanging in the hall for weeks. You can't take it home till the teacher sends it with the kids. Roland is sitting at the front of the school waiting for me tonight with it and when I enter his teacher Mrs. Jill says, "Roland has discovered permanent markers." My heart stops because I'm thinking he's a). vandalized school property, just like his Mom, b). marked up some of his clothes, or c). painted on his or someone else's skin. Ha-ha oh-inexperienced-parent! None of those! Apparently Roland was inspecting his letters on the plate - he's really into identifying letters lately - and he got so close that he could smell the fumes from the blue permanent pen. He told Jill, "Jill, my blue letters smell." Awesome - huffing markers at 3 years of age. Not that I can blame him, they do smell good! Jill couldn't keep it together long enough to complete the story. Hm...maybe she's been sniffing them too!
