Moss and Worms

Spring is coming! I'm sure we'll have a few more cold spells yet, but this past weekend was exactly what we needed to save our sanity. Finally, two full days of warm spring air, with no rain! I can't think of one single thing we did on Saturday except explore the outdoors, mainly just the backyard. We talked more about our gardening ambitions, played some tee-ball, kicked some soccer balls, and yep, that's about it. Oh yeah, went hunting for moss and worms. The photos are from my sister's visit on Super Bowl Sunday and my brother's visit this past Sunday, both were fine times.
About the moss/worms: Roland and I were exploring the back yard in early January and enjoyed finding moss, touching it, talking about it, etc., and he really took to it! He can even point it out when we're at the lake! I'm a moss fan (dreamed of a bed of moss as a child) and despite my youthful transplanting efforts I've learned you just have to enjoy it where you find it and move on. As for the worms, we've got this great pile of rocks/small boulders in the back yard that are a perfect place for young boys and their goofy parents to drive trucks, dig in the dirt and turn over looking for worms. Turns out all the worms are babies right now so we'll have to check back later to see if they've grown big, fat and slimy. Roland was really gentle with the worms and didn't seem the least bit squeamish about them squiggling in his hand. I've got to say, it's way too much fun having a toddler to explore the world all over again! I can't wait till we start working on the garden and really getting into spring/summer!
