Predators 2, Ducks 1

Or at least that was the score when we left. Best to leave on a high note, right? In the spirit of our annual hockey game tonight I'll recap in periods, and paint pictures with words as it was not a night for the camera.

Period one: Blood and Tears
Brian grabbed Meatball, some fast food and met me in the parking garage under the building to transport Roland and dinner up to my office. Roland had a good meltdown between the car and the office because we refused to let him push the buttons in the elevator. Cleverly, all the lowest buttons in an elevator are "ALARM" and "EMERGENCY STOP". Bet you've never noticed it, but now you will. Everyone knows why they are the lowest, but it stinks none-the-less. So, when we finally arrive we're greeted by Jason, Catherine and Layton's welcoming smiles...and then Roland does a complete face plant into Jason's knee who was reaching down to pick him up. Commence the bleeding out of BOTH nostrils and mouth. Tears, crying, and more blood. It's wonderful and the pacifier is in the car. Thank goodness Thomas the Tank Engine is on YouTube and Layton and Catherine are immune to screaming toddlers. Finally calmed down we have a nice dinner and pack back up for our trip down to the rink.

Period Two: Exercise
I'm really going to miss when Roland is too big for a stroller, as it expedited our trip in the night air down to the rink. Early, we found the elevator, rode to our level and then walked an ENTIRE lap of the Somet Center...whew. Roland was like a little wobbly elf who enjoyed parting traffic and finding ropes to duck under. Once thoroughly exhausted we settled into our great seats with plenty of room around us (yay!) for some pregame snacks. We watched the teams warm-up, the lights go down, the Zamboni clean and prepare the ice, the jumbo-tron find people in the audience to spotlight. It was a good time.

Period Three: Rock Concert
So when the lights finally dimmed and the jumbo-tron lit up with the pregame digital movie - it was like being at a rock concert. Roland's eyes were golf balls. The surround sound, matched with the lights, accentuated by the graphics, enhanced by the strange cheerleaders and Nash on the court made for quite a 15 minute show. And when the team finally did come out, so did the fog horn. It was EXCITING! So exciting the start of the game seemed, well, deflating. Roland was great though, and pretty much watched the entire first period, but we know when to say when and as soon as it was over we quietly packed up and headed back up the hill for home.

Brian and I really appreciate getting to enjoy what Nashville has to offer - and a Predators game is definitely a special treat. Maybe next year we'll stay to the second period! Rebels! Meanwhile, all the packing, moving, walking, etc. is definitely worth it to watch Roland take in all the sights and sounds of professional hockey, if only for the half hour we actually saw them play.
